Our fish out on Saturday March 30 will be at Riley Pond at the State Fish Hatchery in Hagerman. Good access for shore and some wade fishing at this still water fishery is right in our back yard. It is again well stocked with fish all the way up to lunkers! Float tubes, U-boats, pontoons, canoes & fishing kayaks all work well on this large pond with several places to launch. Everything from buggers and baitfish streamers down to micro midges have caught good fish here at one time or another.
An update just in from our newest board member.
I take my kids fishing often. If you are looking for a family outing try the Hagerman WMA. It’ll be busy, but you can catch fish. Riley Pond and Oster Lakes opened March 1st. I’ve already taken my kids and if you fish wooly buggers, scuds, or leach patterns you are going to hook up. If they wise up or the bait chuckers crowd you go with an indy rig with an egg and scud on the point. F&G stocked lots of “banana” rainbows in addition to the usual rainbow tripods so kids can easily see them without polarized sunglasses. Makes it a little different than most trout fishing. Tight lines, Ian Rickert
