Magic Valley Fly Fishers Final February 24, 2022, Update.
Good snowy evening to you one and all.
Great news.
In just three weeks from last night, on Wednesday March 16, 2022, we are restarting our monthly meetings at the Mountain View Barn, Jerome. This will be an important and interesting renewal of our club activities.
AND YUM!
If we get 20 RSVPs’ that want to have dinner by Monday, March 14, Nina will have the kitchen open for some of their Big Beautiful Burgers, Splendid Sides, Scrumptious Salads, Soups and other goodies to be named later!! Fabulous food, fly fishing and fun. How good can it get? We’re glad to be back!
The main program will be our own Mr. Glenn Buscher tying some of his fantastic fish fooling baitfish flies. He will tie and talk us through his unique techniques to produce really fishy and effective imitations. He will also teach us his tricks on how to use them to catch big fish year round in still water, rivers and streams. More in our flier to follow soon.
We are pleased too, that Mike Peterson, IDFG Fisheries Manager for our Magic Valley Region will be stopping in from across the street to give a brief overview on their work and changes underway and probable projects to do with us in 2022.
Also on the program will be our Consulting Historian Dr. Russ Tremayne giving us a short update on his work on our Magic Valley Fly Fishers Oral-Video History Project now well underway. We thank him and all of you that he has interviewed thus far, and those that will be interviewed in the weeks ahead. This history presentation will be shown during the festivities on April 30. The documentation of our members’ extensive knowledge of fly fishing and its colorful cast of characters and their adventures over the years is just one of our preparations for our upcoming annual spring event.
Our 50th Year Anniversary Day and Dinner at the Barn on Saturday April 30, 2022. Time flies fly fishing. Please plan on coming and having a great day and dinner to learn and celebrate how much fun fly fishing is for us all. Our daytime family activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p. m. will include showcasing for our community the fun of fly fishing and how it can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone! Just get involved, wade in, and do it! Please send this to your family, friends and neighbors, the kids, grandkids, great grandkids and all the ladies to start to fling a few flies for family fun! Casting and fly tying demonstrations with hands on practice for new folks will be complemented with presentations by our members and other kindred groups with similar interests and commitments to preserving, protecting, promoting and enhancing our outdoor recreation opportunities in the Magic Valley, Idaho and beyond.
IDFG, The Nature Conservancy, The Twin Falls Audubon Society, CSI, outdoor artists / photographers and others will be there. These daytime activities are to rekindle old relationships and start new community activities with Magic Valley Fly Fishers working to encourage fly fishing, fisheries enhancement/access projects and related outdoor interests.
The evening dinner & program from 5 to 9 p.m. will feature Will Godfrey, presenter, guide, fisheries adviser, and author of books on fly tying and fly fishing across Idaho. As our primary founder, he has a unique perspective on our club and the role OUR fly fishers have played in keeping fly fishing an ongoing and thriving pastime, hobby, affection or affliction? However you call it, fly fishing is easier and bigger than it has ever been and we want that to continue. Don’t miss it!! Info on dinner tickets, fundraising, raffles and auctions, and daytime event details will be out soon.
Other club stuff.
I want to thank Fred Schneiter again for volunteering as Vice President for 2022 and helping me immensely!!
I also want to thank and welcome the several new members that have joined recently. Thanks to those renewing as well.
